Strengthening private sector climate finance readiness in Palestine, Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, and Oman

We supported efforts to strengthen private sector climate finance readiness across the Middle East, working with public, private, and non-profit stakeholders in Jordan, Iraq, Palestine, Lebanon, and Oman. The work included institutional diagnostics, capacity development, and support for institutions preparing for Green Climate Fund accreditation, in partnership with the Global Green Growth Institute.

Challenges:

  • Private sector institutions across the Middle East face barriers to accessing international climate finance due to limited institutional readiness

  • Misaligned private actors with national climate strategy

Approach:

  • Regional workshops and dialogues with public, private, and non-profit stakeholders

  • Institutional diagnostics and readiness assessments

  • Tools to support capabilities development in country

  • Activities supporting institutions in preparing for Green Climate Fund (GCF) accreditation and positioning climate projects aligned with national programs

Outcome:

  • Strengthened institutional readiness for climate finance in Jordan, Iraq, Palestine, Lebanon, and Oman

  • The Municipal Development and Lending Fund (MDLF) become the first Palestinian entity to become GCF accredited (https://www.mdlf.org.ps/en/cmspage/page?pageId=7586)
