Paul Carttar
Paul Carttar is an independent consultant with more than forty years’ experience tackling management and strategic challenges in the public, private, and nonprofit sectors. Recent work has focused primarily on advancing the practice of social investment globally, including developing investor networks in Africa and Latin America, and nonprofit sector capacity building in Saudi Arabia. He is a Senior Advisor and co-founder of The Bridgespan Group, a consulting firm focused on social impact andalso serves on several boards in the US and Africa.
During the Obama Administration, Carttar served as the initial Director of the Social Innovation Fund (SIF), a priority program of the President that mobilized more than a billion public and private dollars to grow promising nonprofits tackling significant social problems in low-income communities. Previously, he was chief program officer for the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, responsible for all programs and grant-making activities, and Executive Vice-Chancellor for External Affairs at the University of Kansas, where he led government and media relations.
Carttar began his career in the public sector with the U.S. Senate Budget Committee and US Department of State and later spent several years with Bain & Company, the international corporate consulting firm, followed by executive positions with two early-stage companies in the healthcare industry.
Carttar has been a featured speaker on topics relating to social innovation and investment at conferences in the US and around the world, including the UK, Germany, Ireland, Russia, Denmark, Colombia, Chile, Mexico, Singapore, China, Malaysia, South Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, Thailand and India. Carttar graduated with highest distinction from the University of Kansas and received his MBA from Stanford University.
